Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world.
She took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere...
Livin' in a lonely world.
She took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere...
Mesi grew up in a small town, but as the Factions grew, became more and more drawn to the excitement they offered. And finally, one night, she ran away. To the village, where the Faction Building is ever on the hill above it, always beckoning to her...
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit.
He took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere...

{insertnamehere} had lived his entire life in a big city across the sea, the son of a wealthy family. Finally, longing for the supposedly quiet life offered in the village near the Faction Building, he snuck away, captaining one of his family's ships.
A singer in a smoky room
Smellin' wine and cheap perfume...
Smellin' wine and cheap perfume...
Mesi, who has discovered that shiny objects actually don't grow on trees, has taken a job at the Melon Bar. She waits tables and sometimes sings, when the mood {and the money} persuades her.
One of the wealthiest and most frequent visitors is {insertnamehere}. It's not like he takes notice of Mesi or anything. The waitress with blood-red hair isn't anything special.
But the night that she's assigned to his table is when he finally takes note of her. Her snarky, arrogant indifference is stragely out of place here, where most of the employees walk around with bent heads and furtive glances. And it's Mesi's impudent smirk that causes {insertnamehere} to take a second look.
She's obnoxious, annoying with her way of arguing with everything he says. Her response is never "yes", but a sarcastic, demeaning comeback. But it intrigues {insertnamehere}...
Workin' hard to get my fill.
Everybody wants a thrill.
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time...
Everybody wants a thrill.
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time...
While Mesi struggles to get enough cash to join up with the Factions, {insertnamehere} struggles to figure Mesi out. And when he tries to look for her during the daytime, he starts to find her more and more often.
Mesi doesn't hate it - this guys is kind of amusing. But he is definitely in the way of her plan to get on top. Well, only until he mentions that he's rich.
It's then that Mesi stays. Seeks him out as he seeks her. Smiles a well-rehearsed fake smile. It's not like he doesn't notice. {insertnamehere} isn't a complete idiot. But he finally has Mesi where he wants her. Where he can figure out what's behind the blood-red hair and sea-green eyes, and why she is the way she is.
And why he always takes a second glance.
Some will win,
Some will lose.
Some of us just sing the blues.
The movie never ends,
It goes on and on and on and on...
Some will lose.
Some of us just sing the blues.
The movie never ends,
It goes on and on and on and on...
Maybe it takes days, or even weeks, but most likely months for Mesi and {insertnamehere} to realize that the sarcasm and cutting words aren't as harsh as they used to be. To realize that the smiles are less fake, and that motivations are forgotten in light of something less selfish.
Mesi can't believe it. She never intended to become pals with {insertnamehere}, much less have the slightest chance of loving him. And {insertnamehere} never meant to stop studying Mesi's mind and start studying her feelings toward him.
And he never meant for a specter from his past to rear her beautiful head.
Marly is a beautiful girl from {insertnamehere}'s hometown. She followed him here, and is quick to make know the fact that the two are in love.
Mesi refuses to believe that she's angry.
{insertnamehere} refuses to acknowledge that he misses Mesi.
As the days go by, and {insertnamehere} spends more time with Marly, Mesi goes back to singing at the Melon Bar. But this time, the songs are sadder, and her feet can't be moved to dance.
Because, no matter how much she hates it, Mesi loves {insertnamehere}.
Dont stop believin'!
Hold on to that feelin'!
Hold on to that feelin'!
{insertnamehere} is staying with Marly because of torn emotions. Whether it be from duty or desire, not even he himself knows.
Mesi keeps singing, keeps moving, although now she knows that she'd be fine with a house in her old town, and ring from {insertnamehere} on her left hand. Yes, city life isn't all she dreamed it would be.
As days drag on, has Mesi stopped believing?
And what happens next remains to be written...
